A Big Thank You to the Rotary Club of Leicester Impact Group

Protecting spring water sources is one of the most cost-effective solutions used by Water for Kids to provide clean water.  We were very fortunate to receive a grant from the Rotary Club of Leicester Impact Group to fund the protection of the Kazalabulwe spring in Iganga.

The Kazalabulwa Spring is in the Nawangingi sub county of Iganga. The spring is 1.5 km away from the village and serves 574 people – the majority female.

Like most communities in Iganga, the people in Kazalabulwa face many challenges and dangers daily in the simple task of collecting water, a job almost always done by women and children. Children often miss school to collect water.

The team, including some community members, was led by Muz and took ten days to protect the spring. After testing, the water was deemed safe.

A Water Committee, made up of members of the community has been set up and trained in the maintenance of the water point and good hygiene practices.

Without the support of the Rotary Club of Leicester Impact Group this spring protection would not have been possible.  Now the community of Kazalabulwe has access to clean water for the first time.
